About Dr. HorinekDr. Horinek's journey to becoming an orthopedic specialist is a testament to his hard work and dedication. Growing up on a farm in Kansas, he learned the value of diligence and perseverance at a young age. Excelling in both academics and sports, he was awarded the prestigious "Academic Heisman" during his time at Colorado State University, which gave him the confidence to pursue medicine.
After completing his premedical requirements at Fort Hays, Dr. Horinek attended KU-Salina for medical school with the intention of becoming a family practitioner. However, during his clinical rotation on orthopedics, he quickly realized that this was his true calling. He went on to complete his residency at Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center before pursuing a one-year shoulder specialty fellowship at the Oregon Shoulder Institute under the mentorship of Patrick Denard. During his time at OSI, Dr. Horinek learned the most innovative techniques for operative and nonoperative management of shoulder conditions and was involved in clinical research that has been presented at the regional, national, and international level. His work on shoulder instability even earned him the Robert Cofield Award for best fellow article of the year. Now he's back in Kansas with his wife, Tracie and five kids. Dr. Horinek specializes in shoulder-related conditions but also has a passion for general orthopedics and helping patients return to an active lifestyle. His dedication to his patients and his field is reflected in his active participation in clinical research, and he looks forward to continuing to serve the great people of Kansas with their orthopedic needs. |
