PREPARING FOR SURGERY

With our focus on high quality, you can feel good about choosing Salina Ortho for orthopedic surgery. The following information is designed to help you prepare or surgery and know what to expect. Your orthopedic surgeon will provide many more details specific to your procedure and answer all questions before your day of surgery.

Pre-Operative Instructions
Prior to surgery, you will typically receive at least two phone calls from us:
  1. A hospital registration representative will call to gather insurance and other personal information.
  2. A registered nurse will call to review your health history and medication information.

Depending on your health history, your physician may require the following before surgery:
  • Pre-surgical laboratory tests
  • New x-rays or MRI
  • Medical clearance from your primary care provider for surgery and anesthesia

Pre-operative instructions vary depending on your condition, physician and procedure, so please consult with your orthopedic surgeon prior to surgery. In general, most surgeons require that patients do not eat or drink after midnight the night before. Additionally, you will need to designate a family member or friend to drive you home after outpatient or inpatient surgery. For safety reasons, surgical patients are not allowed to drive themselves home.

If you have questions about orthopedic surgery and how to prepare for it, please contact us.
