About Dr. JohnsonMichael J. Johnson, M.D., was born at St. John's Hospital in Salina, KS and grew up in Salina, KS until he moved to Winfield, KS in high school. He graduated from Winfield High School in 1980 and went on to attend Kansas State University until transferring in 1984 to the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS where he completed his B.S. degree in Pharmacy in 1987. While on clinical rotation at KU Medical Center as a pharmacy student, he discovered his passion was patient care, so he decided to pursue medicine.
After graduation, he moved to Wichita, KS to attend the University of Kansas School of Medicine and earn his M.D. degree where he graduated 7th in a class of 160. During medical school, his interest in surgery and his love of sports spurred him to choose orthopedic surgery as his specialty. Upon graduation from medical school, Dr. Johnson completed his orthopedic surgery residency from 1992 to 1997 at several of the hospitals in Wichita including Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, Wesley Medical Center, Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center, as well as the Shriners Hospital for Children in St. Louis, MO. Dr. Johnson joined Salina Ortho in 1997. Outside of patient care, he also performs Medicolegal work including Independent Medical Examinations (IME), Medical Records Reviews, Impairment Ratings as well as Depositions. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery. Outside of Dr. Johnson’s practice, he enjoys competing in endurance sports and traveling with his wife and family. He has now completed 20 ironman and ultramarathons. He has been married for over 35 years and has 3 children and 2 grandchildren. |
